Both parties will work together towards the energy transition
Africa Oil Week (AOW) is pleased to announce the agreement of a four-year partnership (2020-2023) with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE).
As part of the agreement, for the next four years the conference will host Hon. Gwede Mantashe, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, as well as the DMRE’s Director-General and the Department’s Deputy Minister (TBA). Senior officials will use AOW as a platform for active B2G dialogue on developing robust and dynamic energy policy.
Though driving investment into the oil and gas sector remains one of Africa Oil Week’s key aims, it recognises the pressing need to move towards a low-carbon future. AOW acknowledges that – as the continent’s premier deal-making platform for decision-makers in oil, gas and energy – it has a responsibility to become a vehicle for moving Africa into the energy transition.
To reflect this, in 2020 it will launch “Future Energy Series: Africa” (FESA) – a day-long event to take place alongside Africa Oil Week. Aimed at governments, integrated energy companies, IPPs and financiers, FESA will tackle the global energy transition from a uniquely African perspective. Topics discussed will include: unconventional gas, renewables, decarbonisation technology and more.
